This Non-Equipment Specific Training Course pairs the principles of electrophysiology with traditional swallowing exercises in order to re-educate laryngeal muscles in patients with dysphagia. The course provides an overview of patient selection, a rationale for Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES) parameter settings, and electrode placement.

The rehabilitation of dysphagia has evolved beyond the use of compensatory strategies and diet modifications. This course serves as an introduction to the science of ultrasonography (US) as an effective form of biofeedback for swallowing rehabilitation for patients across the lifespan. Clinician will learn how to use this non-invasive modality to study the dynamics of the oral pharyngeal system and the muscles of the oropharynx during swallowing.

Manual therapy is a method of using skilled touch to assess and provide specific movements of joints and soft tissue to improve tissue extensibility; increase range of motion; induce relaxation; mobilize or manipulate soft tissue and joints; modulate pain; and reduce soft tissue swelling, inflammation, or restriction. This course is a must for anyone treating NPC or other head and neck cancer patients.
